This guideline combines the characteristics of the Technical Guidelines of the Basel Convention, including an introduction, Basel Convention and relevant international agreements on waste plastic management requirements, plastic waste and non plastic waste, waste plastic and recycled plastic guidelines, waste plastic identification and environmentally sound management practices, plastic waste management cases, references, and attachments. The document focuses on promoting the concept of environmentally sound management of plastic waste throughout the entire process, and proposes requirements for the performance indicators related to recycled plastics, in order to promote the entire process management of waste plastics and recycled plastics and promote further development of the industry.

 

 

 

In May 2023, the School of Environment at Tsinghua University/Basel Convention Asia Pacific Regional Center organized the "Asia Pacific Forum on Plastic Waste and POPs Management". The forum was held in a combination of online and offline methods, with over 50 representatives from 6 countries including China, Cambodia, Maldives, Mongolia, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, as well as representatives from research institutes and the business community (online and offline) attending. The meeting discussed the current status of solid waste, especially plastic waste management, and shared the progress of waste management, Basel Convention compliance, and the implementation of plastic amendments in various countries, Explore the practice of plastic waste management in regional countries. At the seminar, representatives from various countries discussed the initial draft of the guideline document and proposed suggestions for document modification and improvement. After further refinement and modification, the guidelines are approved and released by the Basel Convention Asia Pacific Regional Center.
